What is Destroy Website?

Destroy Website is a free browser game where you blow up a web page. Paste any address, pick one of the built-in targets, or launch the game from a bookmarklet on a page you already have open. We turn the page's headings, paragraphs, buttons and images into a destructible level. Then you fly around with a jetpack and wreck it with seven different weapons.

Think of it as a website destroyer game with a scoreboard: you get 60 seconds to rack up points, or you can switch to the sandbox and smash things at your own pace. When the round ends you can share a link to your score and dare a friend to beat it. It is an independent project and it works on desktop and, in touch mode, on mobile.

How to destroy any website in 3 steps

  1. Pick a target. Paste a URL into the box above, or choose a built-in site. Prefer to stay on the page you are reading? Use the bookmarklet instead.
  2. Load the level. The page is rebuilt as platforms, walls and targets. Text blocks, images and buttons all become things you can break.
  3. Blast it apart. Move with A/D, hold Space to jetpack, aim with the mouse and fire. Chain kills quickly for a bigger combo. Details are on the how to play page.

That is all it takes to destroy a webpage for a minute of stress relief. No download, no sign-up.

Weapons at a glance

Switch weapons with the number keys or the mouse wheel. Each one is good at something different, and the weapons guide has strategy for every one.

3GrenadeLobbed in an arc, bounces once, then explodes with splash damage.
4RocketSlow straight missile with a big blast radius.
5Laser BeamHold to fire a continuous beam that cuts through a whole line.
6Ban HammerShort-range smash that destroys everything you touch.
7Black HoleDrops a singularity that sucks nearby elements in and crushes them.

Is it safe? Does it hurt the real site?

It is safe, and no, it cannot hurt the real site. Destroy Website never hacks, attacks, overloads or edits anything. The "destruction" is a drawing on a canvas inside your own browser tab, built from a copy of the page's text and image addresses.

In URL mode, the address you enter goes to our server, which downloads that public page once and sends back only text, headings and image addresses. Your browser then loads the images directly from the original site, just as it would if you visited it. With the bookmarklet, everything happens in your tab and a reload brings the page back. Read the privacy policy for the details.

Destroy Website vs. other website-destroying games

The idea of wrecking a web page for fun is not new. Bookmarklet toys from the 2010s and newer viral demos have all had a go at it, and each takes a different approach. What we focus on is simple access: paste a URL and play, or use a bookmarklet when a site cannot be fetched, with a timed challenge and shareable score links on top. FAQ

Is Destroy Website free?

Yes. The game is completely free to play in your browser. There is nothing to download, no account to create and no paywall in front of any weapon or mode.

Is it illegal? Does it damage the real website?

No. Nothing you do in the game touches the real website. We never hack, attack, overload or change any site. The page is rebuilt as a level inside your own browser tab, and all the destruction is drawn locally. Close the tab or reload and everything is back to normal.

Why does my URL fail to load as a level?

In URL mode our server downloads the public page once and reads its text, headings and image addresses. Some sites block automated visitors, require a login, or build everything with JavaScript so the downloaded page is nearly empty. When that happens, use the bookmarklet instead: it runs on the page you already have open, so it sees exactly what you see.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, in touch mode: tap to blast and use the on-screen controls. It is still best on a desktop or laptop with a keyboard and mouse, because aiming and jetpack control are much more precise there. The bookmarklet is hard to use on phones, so on mobile paste the URL on the home page.

How do I use the bookmarklet?

Open the bookmarklet page and drag the Destroy Website button to your bookmarks bar (Ctrl+Shift+B or Cmd+Shift+B shows the bar). Then open any website and click the bookmark. The page you are viewing turns into a playable level right where it is.

Is there multiplayer?

Not yet. Right now Destroy Website is a solo game: a 60-second score challenge or an untimed sandbox. You can still compete with friends by sharing your score link and asking them to beat it on the same target.

How do scores and sharing work?

In the 60-second challenge you earn points for every element you destroy, and quick consecutive kills build a combo multiplier. When time runs out you can copy a share link that carries your score and target, so a friend can open it and try to beat you. Your best score is remembered in your own browser only.

Do I need an account, and can I play offline?

No account, ever. Your best score and sound settings are saved in your browser's local storage. Built-in targets load with the site, but URL mode needs an internet connection to fetch the page, and the bookmarklet needs to load the game script, so full offline play is not supported.
